Installation and Upgrade

Visual Enterprise Viewer uses SAP installer technology for both Minimum and Complete. Other than branding, it is basically the same as previously. There is one exception; there is no option for single or multiuser during install.

All installs must be completed from an account with administrator privileges. Any previous installations of Right Hemisphere Deep View or SAP 3D Viewer will be uninstalled.

Please ensure there are no open instances of the viewer during an install or uninstall. Proceeding in either case with active instances of the viewer may have unexpected results.

Removed Features
  • Support has been dropped for:
    • Office Add-in for Microsoft Excel.
    • FrameMaker.
    • PDF Publishing from Office.
    • Office 2002.
    • Safari.
  • Transparency effect in toolbars and rollover panels has been removed.
  • Updater.x3d plugin has been removed. This removes automatic update via the internet.

Fixed
  • AddModel error in DV 6.5 API.

Known Issues

    Temporary Files

  • Visual Enterprise Viewer leaves some temporary files in %TEMP%
  • Installer

  • Warning message that previous installations of the RH or SAP viewer will be uninstalled always appears.
  • Installing to a custom directory requires using the Browse button.
    • On Windows 7 use 'Browse...' button provided by installer and create needed folders as required.
    • On XP create the desired path folders outside of the installer and use 'Browse...' to select the destination.
  • Report on HD required space is wrong.
    • Look at the installer package properties via Windows right-click > Properties.
  • Uninstall by a non-admin results in a privileges prompt that is hidden by Control Panel.
    • Non-admin install/uninstall is not supported. The informational dialog can be accessed via Windows Task Bar.

URLs to RH file with Context (eg, directly to a Model View or Step)

  • Collaboration with URL to other file's Model View or Step will not load in Visual Enterprise Author if there is a space in the pathname. This happens for PCs that have RH files associated to Visual Enterprise Author.
    • Do not have spaces in the path name if you want the file to load in Visual Enterprise Author.

XMetaL Author Visual Enterprise Viewer Plug-in

  • Generate DITA Topic defaults to Multiple HTML files.
    • Select 'SAP Visual Enterprise Viewer DITA Output'.
  • Preview fails if folder path contains extended character (eg, exclamation point, degree, etc.).
    • Ensure folder path contains only alpha-numeric characters.
  • DITA Topic must have steps, otherwise output may lead to a crash.
    • Always include steps in DITA Topic.
  • DITA Maps with a dot in the Map filename will not generate output for DITA Map.
    • Do not put a dot in the DITA Map filename.
  • Simultaneous editing of XML in both Visual Enterprise Author and XMetaL is not recommended. It is possible to get documents which are out of sync.
    • Save any changes and reload the files when changing from working on same XML file in both Visual Enterprise Author and XMetaL.

    Visual Assembly Navigation

  • Model fails to reassemble after VAN mode if user switches rendering type during VAN mode.
  • Changing visibility whilst in Visual Assembly Navigation mode (either manually or by using Query) can lead to erratic results.
    • Set these changes before going into Visual Assembly Navigation mode.
    • Recommend not to use Query (or to change any visibility) whilst in VAN mode.

    Powerpoint

  • Powerpoint slideshow will initially display black for HDR renderer when more than one model is on a slide.
    • Recommend to only have one model per slide when using HDR renderer.
  • Once Powerpoint has the display renderer set to HDR and saved, you cannot set it to anything else via the Viewport.
    • Turn off HDR rendering by selecting Image mode > Properties, and change 'UseHDRRenderer' from True to False.

    Query

  • Spatial Query using Contour\Grow Region by percent will run very slowly for larger models.
    • Try and avoid adding growth percentage to a Spatial Contour filter in Query for large models.

Support for Visual Data Streaming (*.vds) files

  • Visual Enterprise Viewer can hang when resizing *.vds files for low specification PC with old graphic cards.
    • Resize Visual Enterprise Viewer before loading the *.vds files for old PCs.
  • Animations are slow for *.vds file.
    • Avoid animations for *.vds files (e.g. in Visual Assembly Navigation use VAN Disassembled mode rather than VAN Animated mode).

    General

  • 3D HTML 'Model View' control in Firefox does not handle Unicode characters used in Model View names. The result is no text displayed following the Unicode character.
  • 3D HTML 'Select Portfolio' control in Firefox displays 'Collaboration Markup View Portfolio' when it should not.
  • 3D HTML CAD PMI Template sometimes shows an error when pressing the Unselected / Show all buttons.
    • Click Continue and it works as expected.
  • 3D HTML template button for 'Hide Unselected' hides everything.
    • Use viewport hide options in right-click menu.
  • Incorrect message displayed when a linked asset is not available.
    • Message displayed is, 'The process is not in background processing mode.'.
  • Adding a Collaboration redline entity to the scene for 2D files changes UI buttons to 3D mode.
  • When UAC is turned off , VEV will steal the .RH file type association from VE Author at next run of the VE Viewer for Vista & Windows 7.
    • Manually re-associate to VE Author.
  • The .RHZ file type is not automatically associated to VEV.
  • DWF files are not loading with Page Layout on.
    • Turn Page Layout on after load of file.
  • Cannot delete selected measurements.
    • Use right-click Delete > All Measurements.
  • X-Ray can be used when Visual Compare is on and lead to objects being hidden rather than transparent.
    • Do not use X-Ray and Visual Compare together.
  • Standalone Viewer - changing the display render to 'HDR Renderer' in the preferences is only valid for the current session.
    • Change the HDR Renderer in each session that it is required.

Installation and Setup - Getting Started with XMetaL
  • XMetaL Author Enterprise Edition 6.0.1. must be installed on the client machine.
  • The plugin will be installed automatically if XMetaL Author Enterprise 6.0.1. was installed before VEV.
  • If XMetaL is installed after VEV, you will need to run VEV to install the DITA authoring plugin.
  • Note: All installation paths require a new 'deliverable type' from the 'Configure Output Options' to be assigned as the default deliverable type for previewing Topics and DITA Maps. To do this:

    • 1. Launch XMetaL Author.
    • 2. Tools/Configure Output.
    • 3. Switch to Preview Tab.
    • 4. Assign 'SAP Visual Enterprise Viewer DITA Output' to the Preview setting so that previewing will use the correct deliverable type.

Getting Started with XMetaL
  • Use XMetaL Author to:
    • File > New > DITA Topic > Task to create an XML with steps.
    • Insert > '3D Model Reference' to associate one XML with one RH file.
    • Insert > 'Link to View or Step' to link some text with the active Model View or Step displayed in the inserted .RH file.
  • One DITA Topic Task type XML per one .RH file. The steps in this XML Task may be synchronised to one procedure in the .RH file.
  • To fully synchronise the output, use the XML Document Editor in Visual Enterprise Author 7.0 to generate Procedures and steps inside RH files.
