Adobe FrameMaker

You can insert and save 2D and 3D content, and Internet shortcuts in Adobe FrameMaker. Please note that you must have Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 installed. Some of the numerous features include:

  • Insert 2D file, 3D files, and Internet shortcuts.
  • Resize and move images and models.
  • Edit the 3D content in Interactive mode.
  • Save 2D and 3D files and Internet shortcuts.
  • An updated User Help Reference is available.
  • You can now print images of your models from Microsoft Word in high resolution.
  • You can now access the Deep Publish Help from the Windows Start menu.
  • You can now check for Cortex updates to Deep Publish at any time. The Internet Update command is now available on the 3D viewport right-click menu for all applications. It is also available on the 2D viewport right-click menu in Framemaker and Deep Server Web.
  • You can now access Deep Publish Help and activate Deep Publish at any time. These command are now available on the 3D viewport right-click menu for all applications. It is also available on the 2D viewport right-click menu in Framemaker and Deep Server Web.
  • You can now view the scene through the selected camera by right-clicking the camera in the Scene tree and then clicking Activate Camera.
  • A new installer does not allow you to install Deep Publish when certain applications are open. These applications are: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (when Word is used as the editor), Internet Explorer, and Adobe FrameMaker.

3D PDF Conversion

You can publish 3D content from within PowerPoint and Word to the Adobe .pdf format. Please note that you must have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed to convert 3D content.

  • The new 3D PDF tools are:
    • Convert to 3D PDF.
    • Convert to 3D PDF and Email.
  • There is a 30-day trial on the 3D PDF tools.
  • In PowerPoint, there is a new toolbar called Deep Publish 3D Conversion tools.
  • In PowerPoint and Word, the 3D PDF tools are located in the File menu.
  • An improved Deep Publish installer interface requests that all Microsoft Office applications are closed before installing Deep Publish.
  • You can now hide the Deep View label that is displayed in Image mode. This option is only available when Deep Publish is activated.
  • Improved Benchmarking interface.

Auto-detect Graphics Mode

When you first use Deep Publish, the Default Rendering Mode dialog is displayed and lists all the available render modes for the graphics card installed on your computer.

The best render mode for your graphics card is automatically detected and you can simply click OK to use it as the default. You can select another mode from the list if you wish, however we recommend using the auto-detect mode.

You can modify the default render mode at a later date using the Display > Graphics Mode menu while in Interactive mode.

  • The 'Insert from My 3D Models' menu option has been renamed 'Insert 3D Model'.

Release 3.7.54

  • The file size of a saved PowerPoint presentation is no longer twice the actual file size.
  • Pagination problems with Word have been corrected by changing the default format from 'Square' to 'In line with text'. This has been found to produce the best pagination results, however you can no longer move the image. Additionally, when converting to 3D PDF, a message will warn you if 'In line with text' is not selected.

  • You can now click a URL in an HTML page and a new instance of Internet Explorer is started without losing any existing 3D content pages.
  • The Mesh properties option tab located on the Object Properties BREP tab now works for NURBS objects.

Known Issues

Release 5.0.153.1451

  • Under some circumstances, ActiveX control may erase derivative tree in Deep Server Web in IE7.
  • If video is embedded in a step, it does not play.
  • If your My Documents folder is on a network drive, you cannot disconnect that drive prior to running the uninstaller.
  • The desktop is no longer displayed when the model's background is set to transparent.
  • When Adobe Illustrator is installed, you are unable to drag .ai files into Word documents or PowerPoint presentations.
  • Crash on exit from PowerPoint, Excel, and Word if the Wacom tablet driver is installed. Uninstalling the driver eliminates this problem.
  • In MSWord, to resize ActiveX controls, switch from Reading view to either Outline, Draft, Web Layout, or Print Layout.
  • Fade effect will be automatically turned off when you switch to the OpenGL renderer.

Release 4.1.56

  • You must upgrade your graphics card drivers to the most recent version in order to display Model Views with PMI markups as expected.
  • The 3D PDF conversion does not support steps and model views.
  • The Parts list has been removed form the Information bar.
  • External textures are embedded into the document when the scene, that contains external textures, is inserted as either 'embedded' or 'linked and embedded'.
  • There is no longer a delay with displaying a scene in Internet Explorer once it has been downloaded.
  • Modification of markup settings in the Tools toolbar now affects both current and future markups.
  • When Adobe Illustrator is installed, you are unable to drag .ai files into Word documents or PowerPoint presentations.
  • The menu command 'Insert from My 3D Models' now defaults to your 'My 3D Models' folder when it is located on a network drive.
  • The display mode selected in the right-click menu does not match the current display mode if another model view is selected which has a different display mode.
  • The Deep Publish installer now creates a Deep Publish User Group in Windows to help with Cortex updates.
  • The color of the lines in .dxf files now matches the color used in Deep Exploration 4.
  • The scene is not display as expected in FrameMaker when the background is set to transparent.
  • If the Deep Publish menu is not displayed in the Office application, choose Help > About Microsoft [application] > Disabled Items, select officeadd.x3d, click Enable, and then close and reopen the application. If this does not resolve the issue, choose Tools > Macro > Security > Security Level tab, click Medium, and then close and reopen the application.

Release 4.0.24

  • Occasionally Deep Publish fails when viewing Word, PowerPoint, and FrameMaker documents created with earlier versions of Deep Publish.
  • Patterned backgrounds are not displayed as expected when viewed as transparent in PowerPoint. This occurs when viewed with the DirectX 8, DirectX 9, and OpenGL display renderers.
  • The resolution of the 3D model in Image mode does not change after you resize the active area for a model dragged into PowerPoint.
  • Occasionally not all cameras are displayed.
  • Occasionally not all PMI data is displayed when the model is first displayed in the viewport.
  • Models are not displayed correctly in Deep Server Web when viewed in full-screen, auto-rotate is selected, and the right-click menu is displayed. This occurs when using the DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 display renderers.
  • Several right-click menu items are not displayed when an object is selected in the 3D viewport when viewed with Deep Server Web.
  • Animation sequences are not displayed in the scene components panel.
  • Occasionally Internet Explorer fails or does not respond when viewing content with Deep Publish. To resolve this issue, choose Tools > Internet Options from the Internet Explorer menu bar, clear the 'Use HTTP1.1' and 'Use HTTP1.1 through proxy connections' check boxes on the Advanced tab, and then click Apply > OK.

Release 4.0.17

  • Occasionally Internet Explorer fails or does not respond when viewing content with Deep Publish. To resolve this issue, choose Tools > Internet Options from the Internet Explorer menu bar, clear the 'Use HTTP1.1' and 'Use HTTP1.1 through proxy connections' check boxes on the Advanced tab, and then click Apply > OK.
  • The Teamwork tools are not available in this release of Deep Publish. That is, you are not able to edit any existing markups or create new markups.
  • The object properties attributes, BREP, NURBS Curve, and NURBS Surface tabs currently do not display.
  • The Automotive Standard command has been removed.
  • The arrow keys do not work as expected when viewing 3D content in Internet Explorer.
  • The right-click 3D Viewport > Animate Options > Options command is always disabled, even when a scene contains animation.
  • Deep Publish no longer supports benchmarking. All functionality relating to this tool has been removed.
  • Several shortcut keys do not work as expected.
  • The Deep Publish menu is not displayed in Word when you close a document without saving. To restore this menu, you need to create a new blank document or open a existing document.
  • When files are dragged into PowerPoint presentations, they are displayed as 2D in slide shows.
  • Occasionally, PMI markups are not displayed in the 3D PDF document.
  • 3D PDF conversion occasionally fails when converting a document that contains PMI markups.
  • Callout markups are not displaying their numbers when converted to 3D PDF.
  • The unregistered image in interactive mode does not display correctly when viewed with either DirectX display renderers.
  • The background is not automatically being set to opaque when the background is changed to a color. To change the background to opaque, right-click the 3D viewport and choose Background > Opaque.

Release 3.7.57

  • Currently, the 3D PDF conversion does not support the following:
    • Light radius information.
    • Linear spotlight attenuation.
    • Markups.
    • Skin and bones.
    • Opacity and bump maps.
    • Cameras.
    • Background images.
    • Camera roll.
    • Spotlight Hotspot information.
    • Animation.
    • NURBS.

Release 3.7.54

  • Deep Publish is not supported in Mozilla Firefox.
  • 3D content created in FrameMaker is seen as a 'grey box' in the absence of Deep View or Deep Publish.
  • Powerpoint does not support inserting Internet shortcuts to 2D files or 2D files as either linked or linked and embedded. That is, Internet shortcuts to 2D files or 2D files can only be embedded.
  • 3D files that are either linked or linked and embedded in a Word document and are linked to a local source are not updated. If these same files are linked to a source on a network, the file is updated by choosing Edit > Links from the menu bar.
  • 3D files that are either linked or linked and embedded in a PowerPoint presentation are not updated when linked to either a local or a network source.
  • The display does not refresh correctly when using DirectX version 8 and 9 and changes are made to the display settings or changing the display modes. To resolve this, select a new render mode.
  • You must click in the viewport before using the navigation shortcuts when working with the application on Deep Server Web.
  • The Zoom Extents navigation shortcut does not work as expected. This will be resolved in future releases of the application.
  • U3D support for polyline colors, while supported in Deep Publish, is not yet supported in Adobe Acrobat Professional; polyline color does not appear as expected when inserted into a PDF document. This should be addressed in the next release of Acrobat Professional.

Release 3.6.24

  • Models do not update when they are inserted as linked and embedded in PowerPoint or Word and the source file changes.
  • The display does not refresh correctly when using DirectX version 9 and changes are made to the display settings.
  • Several navigation shortcuts do not work correctly when 3D content is viewed with Deep Server Web.
  • Cortex is currently not automatically updating previous versions of Deep Publish. To resolve this, perform a manual update by choosing Start > All Programs > Right Hemisphere > Cortex, then choose File > Internet Update and click Yes. This ensures future updates are performed automatically. Permission to write to the folder where the application is installed (the application folder) is required for Cortex updates.

Release 3.6.4

  • If you have been are using Deep Publish version 3.5, please uninstall this program before installing version 3.6. If the Deep Publish 3D Model menu is not displayed, reinstall version 3.6. Please note, you must not uninstall version 3.6 in this situation.
  • Occasionally the Image Mode right-click menu displays multiple Interactive menu options. To resolve this, delete the Normal.dot file located at Documents and Settings\username\Application data\Microsoft\Templates.
  • In a PowerPoint slide show, a ghosted image of the model is occasionally displayed when 'Use hardware graphics acceleration' is selected in the Slide Show > Set Up Show dialog, and you are using full hardware acceleration on your graphics card. To resolve this, lower the level of hardware acceleration on your graphics card.
  • If the Deep Publish 3D Model menu is not displayed in the Office application, choose Help > About Microsoft [application] > Disabled Items, select officeadd.x3d, click Enable, and then close and reopen the application. If this does not resolve the issue, choose Tools > Macro > Security > Security Level tab, click Medium, and then close and reopen the application.
  • Currently, the 3D PDF conversion does not support the following:
    • Light radius information.
    • Linear spotlight attenuation.
    • Markups.
    • Skin and bones.
    • Opacity and bump maps.
    • Cameras.
    • Background images.
    • Camera roll.
    • Spotlight Hotspot information.
    • Animation.
    • NURBS.
  • Once you have activated Deep Publish, you must restart PowerPoint and Word before you can use the 3D PDF Conversion tools.
  • The default background has changed from transparent to opaque.
  • Word may stop responding when using the DirectX or OpenGL rendering modes. If this occurs, open PowerPoint and change your graphics mode to Software Z-Buffer.
  • The right-click menu options 'Interactive Mode' and '3D Model Object > Edit' both switch from Image to Interactive mode. In Word, Interactive Mode applies to all the files in a document, whereas 3D Model > Edit applies to selected objects only. For example, if there were multiple 3D models in a Word document, choosing Interactive Mode causes all files to switch to Interactive mode. Selecting 3D Model Object > Edit only switches selected objects.
  • During the 3D PDF conversion, models disappear from view. They are displayed again once the conversion process is complete.
  • Occasionally the old Deep Publish 3D Model menu options are displayed in existing documents. To display the new menu options, copy and paste the contents into a new document. This has been addressed in this version of Deep Publish and should not cause difficulties in this and future versions.
  • Models may not display correctly in PDF documents when you right-click models while using DirectX 9 and some graphics cards. To resolve this, you must change the graphics mode by choosing Edit > Preferences > 3D from the Adobe Acrobat menu bar, and then select another graphics mode.
  • Occasionally some file formats are not selected by default after installation. If you cannot drag a file into Word or PowerPoint; choose Insert > 3D Model > Settings from the application menu bar, ensure all check boxes are selected on the Drag and Drop tab, and click OK.You must then close and reopen the Office application.
  • When converting a model to 3D PDF, occasionally the model does not look satisfactory when displayed in Adobe.

To improve the display of a 3D model in a PDF document:

1. Open Deep Exploration.
2. Open the file you want to display in the PDF document.
3. Choose
File > Save As on the Deep Exploration menu bar.
4. Select Universal 3D (.u3d), ensure the 'Show save options' check box is selected and click
Save.
5. Modify the .u3d export settings as required.
6. Drag or insert the .u3d file into the Word or PowerPoint document.
7. Save the document and choose
File > Convert to 3D PDF.
The 3D model is displayed in the PDF Adobe document.

Release 3.5.7

  • To resolve the problem of the application failing in all graphic modes except Software Z-buffer, you should upgrade your NVIDIA driver to version 61.76.
  • The Start menu links are only created for the local user, and not for 'all' users. To correct this, a person with Administrator permissions must copy the links from the Administrators profile to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Right Hemisphere.

Release 3.5.4

  • The background tiles when Software Z-buffer render graphic mode is selected.
  • Scene backgrounds sometimes print as black on a black and white printer regardless of being set to transparent.
  • If working with a PowerPoint or Word document that has many slides/pages and 3D models, a red cross may appear indicating memory issues. To correct this, select the 'Use block transfer' option on your video card settings.

Release 3.0.12

If you are using an NVIDIA graphics card, we recommend making the anti-aliasing settings available before using Deep Publish. This enables you to control the amount of anti-aliasing and improve the display performance.

To make the anti-aliasing settings available in Deep Publish:

1. From Control Panel, open the Display Properties dialog.
2. Choose Settings > Advance and then click the NVIDIA graphics card tab. A hierarchical tree is displayed.
3. Click OpenGL Settings in the tree and clear all setting's check boxes.
4. Click Apply and then click OK.
5. Close the Display Properties dialog.

The Anti-aliasing Settings tab will now be displayed on the NVIDIA Special Config dialog and you can establish anti-alias settings.

Release 3.0.10

If you select to disable the Deep Publish officeadd.x3d unintentionally, the Deep Publish menu options are not displayed in the application Insert menu.

To correct the menu option display:

1. On the application Tools menu, choose Macro > Security.
2. Select the 'Trust all installed add-ins and templates' check box.
3. Click OK.
4. Close and restart the application. The 3D Model menu is now available from the Insert menu.

Note: There may be an issue with the Deep Publish officeadd.x3d if you received your copy of Deep Publish before its official release as the officeadd.x3d had not been signed. Correct this by clicking About [application] on the application Help menu, clicking Disabled Items then clicking the officeadd.x3d item and clicking Enable.
