i am trying to create a large scene and import it into DC. I have been told that creator is only Z up but when i import .mb files the scene seems to come in much better and navigate better until i import additional objects, then it throws the camera off.
Having tried to abide by the rules of Z-up I had created my scene in Z-up but when i imported it, it imported the whole scene on its side with animation incorrectly loading. Is is Z up or Y up... its extremely frustrating for their to be inconsistancies on assembling a scene based on this, it would be much easier to set it up as either Y or Z up much like animation packages. Just a suggestion... help or advice would be appreciated.

Well... I would have thought that the converter or import would have chaged the axis into it's own system... so you could make things where up is up and not necessarily match the axis.
(I don't know for sure though)
But I would try some simple tests if I were you.
Eg... import a cone and see where it comes in.
And... import a boned and animated cone and see where it comes in.
About "throws the camera off" from memory when you import something cosmos will zoom out from which ever direction you are looking to see all the objects. If you have large objects though much might be culled off (distance cull).
Or even a temp object way out of the way in your scene.
I guess you need to do some quick simple tests first. Just in case the process for you needs to be changed.
Not only test the orientation but also the scale of things to make.
Surely there is something about your "additional objects" that is different to your large scene.

the importer should change the co-ord system as it brings the scene in.
DC's coordinate system is Z up. Maya I believe is Y up. Using the Maya importer this information is transposed for you = so the scene should appear correctly (except now what you were refering to as Y in Maya is DC now appears as Z)
Hope that helps,

I've noticed through at least 3 different examples that if you bring in a scene with build in Z up VS Y up that is imports incorrectly EVERY time and the camera is thrown off time and time again... Y up scenes import perfectly. Is there a reason for the importing of Z up scenes incorrectly and can any one chime in on this.

The Maya import plugin has some settings, one of them "Change Axes (Swap Y and Z)". The problem is, options are not available in DC yet, we have to support this soon. Meanwhile you can import scene into Deep Exploration with using of this setting, and then transfer scene into DC as rh file.
